A record moves from one organization to another, never copied.

Console Exchange is LaVision-iT’s records exchange. A bank, an insurer or an administration asks the organization that holds a record — a telecom operator, a hospital, a school — for it. Console ID proves who the person is and asks for their consent on their phone; the answer is encrypted for the requester alone. The exchange carries: it keeps no record and reads none. A platform built and tested, in demonstration.

Diagram: a bank, the requester, and a telecom operator, the holder, on either side of Console Exchange. 1, the request goes from the bank to the exchange. 2, above, Console ID asks the person for consent on their phone and signs it. 3, the exchange tells the telecom by a signed notice, with the consent. 4, the record comes back from the telecom in a sealed envelope, encrypted for the bank alone; the exchange forwards it without being able to read it. 5, the bank reads it once, then it is deleted.

01Le principeThe idea

Three roles, and one copy: the one kept by the organization that holds the record.

Who the person is, what is known about them, and what travels in between: each stays in its place.

QuiWhoConsole ID

The identity: the person’s number, their verification level, their consents. Console ID keeps no hospital, bank or school record.

The request, the consent, the answer, the receipts: metadata only. The record crosses the exchange encrypted for the requester alone.

QuoiWhatChaque organisationEach organization

Its own records about the person, under an identifier of its own. They stay with it; no one copies them elsewhere.

02Le parcoursThe journey

Une demande, un accord, une réponse scellée.A request, a consent, a sealed answer.

One organization asks another for a record: the person accepts or refuses on their phone, then the record travels sealed to the requester alone. If they say no, everything stops.

Console ID puts this very transfer to the person — who asks, whom, for what, why — on their phone. Their yes comes back signed; their no stops everything, and the holder is never even told.

Told by a signed notice, the holder encrypts the record to the requester’s key alone. The exchange checks the envelope and the size, keeps the hash, and forwards without being able to read.

  • Une lecture, puis effacéeRead once, then deleted

La personne retrouve le transfert dans « Qui a mon identité ».The requester is told, fetches the answer once and decrypts it on its side; the exchange deletes it. The person finds the transfer under “Who has my identity”.

Illustration — fictional data: the bank, the telecom, the message and the date are made up.

03Ce que l’échange voitWhat the exchange sees

Il voit l’enveloppe, jamais la lettre. It sees the envelope, never the letter.

The exchange keeps metadata — who asked whom for what, why, when, the size, the hash, the outcome. The record itself only passes through, encrypted to the requester’s key alone: it is written to neither its database, its logs nor its queues.

Three examples of what an exchange carries: the person no longer has to fetch the paper, and nothing is copied into a central database.

No transfer without the consent Console ID signed for that very transfer. Only the listed legal duties — a court order, a public-health report — are an exception, recorded as such.

06Le choixThe choice

Un échange, et non un entrepôt.An exchange, not a warehouse.

There were two ways to let records travel. We chose the one that does not create a single database of all the data — the model of X-Road, Estonia’s data exchange layer.

Drawing: six organizations — health, bank, telecom, school, administration, insurance — each pour a copy of their records into one central database, cracked: a single breach exposes everything.
